Mangbetu People Democratic Republic of the Congo The Mangbetu people believe that an elongated skull with a flattened forehead pleased the gods. At birth, the heads of babies were tightly wrapped with a cloth in order to create the elongate look. The circular formations on the vessel represent hips.
